Project Description

Solihull is an affluent suburb to the south east of Birmingham close to Birmingham International Airport and the NEC. The site sits off a major roundabout in a prominent location close the centre of Solihull. A brownfield site housing 3 car dealerships, the site had the complexities of existing services and contaminated soil which required extensive remediation.

The brief provided for the demolition of 2 showrooms and the provision of quality new retail accommodation with articulated well-defined facades. The final scheme saw the largest unit situated closest to the roundabout, with its aluminium clad upper facade visible along the main road. The two smaller units have similar treatment with protruding elements defining the main entrances. Areas of the facade are also clad in ceramic granite on a rainscreen system. Both the hard and soft landscaping are of a high standard. Set-out along a striking curved layout, block paviours and mature trees were chosen to complement the materials used on the facade.

Rebranding

Working within the constraints of a trading retail park and completed in just twelve weeks, the transformation of this retail unit provided reconfigured spaces to meet the requirements of an ever-changing market. Signifying a significant step-forward in retail design, Solihull Gate has become a must-have destination for the retail industry and shoppers alike.

In a departure from the norm, the design uses granite claddings fixed to insulated steel panels which allow for eye-catching finishes to be provided without compromising programme..
