Project Description

The Ground Works trust is currently a converted barn being utilised a base for a local landscaping company.
The project involved the refurbishment and extension of the barn to create a riverside restaurant at ground floor and a retail unit at the first floor.

Commercial barn conversions are rare, and discussions with local planning officers centred around the visual preservation of the original barn. Consequently the contemporary extensions are not only subservient to the main structure but are divorced by glazed light wells to visually separate the two structures whilst bringing in natural light into the centre of the building.

The visual separation of the two structures has been further enhanced through the use of contemporary materials where the new and old meet.

The final solution provides a stunning waterside restaurant with the added benefit of a retail element at first floor to ensure the commercial viability of the project
