A former mill site in Hawkshaw, Bury has received planning permission to demolish the existing building and construct a new residential family development of 24  three and four bedroomed houses.

Bleaklow Mill was an industrial mill that has been slowly demolished over the last 17 years. Part of the site has already been developed into apartments and this permission completes the proposals with a range of family housing.

The site, which has full planning granted subject to a section 106 agreement, will also incorporate a park to the southern side overlooking the countryside to help “blend” the proposals into the local landscape.

Reid Lewis, architect from The Ratcliffe Groves Partnership (RGP), commented “we’re really excited about our appointment on this scheme. The changes in levels across the site presented us with a great opportunity to create contemporary, inward looking mews courts and a sympathetic external, outward looking development, when viewed from the surrounding countryside.”

Work will start on the site some time this autumn with the houses available for sales in 2018.
