RETAIL

LIDL, PEEL RETAIL PARK, WASHINGTON

The proposed redevelopment at Peel Retail Park, located approximately 2.5km from Washington town centre, involves demolishing an existing retail unit to build a new Lidl store. This project, which has been completed in 2019, is part of a larger plan to reconfigure and revitalize other existing units within the park.

The new Lidl store’s design is specifically tailored to meet the operator’s requirements, with architectural elements, scale, massing, and aesthetics carefully considered to ensure visual consistency and integration with the existing, newly refurbished structures across the site. The design, often guided by the retailer’s established parameters, aims to create a cohesive look that aligns with Lidl’s brand identity while fitting into the overall site’s improved appearance.

External improvements include new hard landscaping and dedicated pedestrian walkways along the perimeter of the new unit, all designed to seamlessly integrate with existing pathways while simultaneously enhancing accessibility and safety. The project also strategically addresses parking needs through thoughtful redistribution and improvement of customer and staff car park facilities.

The re-development of the retail park has contributed significantly to the regeneration of local retail destination.
