RESIDENTIAL
BLEAKLOW MILL, BURY
The redevelopment of a 0.62-hectare brownfield site, located four miles from the centre of Bury, has been successfully completed. The site, previously occupied by the long-disused Bleaklow Mill industrial building, had stood vacant for over a decade.
The residential development comprises a combination of three-to-four-bedroom dwellings over two and a half stories with a total of 24 semi-detached properties along with a green parkland for the residents to enjoy. The proposed layout has been designed principally to ensure a visual integration into the wider greenbelt corridor. The site runs adjacent to the main road which made the development visible and with the changing levels across the site, a great opportunity presented to create high quality contemporary dwellings arranged in such a way that allowed the development to be concealed visually through-out the site and enabled clear undisturbed views across the wider open landscape.
The aesthetics appearance of the dwellings reflects the architectural heritage, the rural setting of the site and prevailing character of the area. In summary the development demonstrated a well-considered and balanced solution that met the local housing needs whilst respecting its environment and community settings.
